Funding anti-discrimination work in Germany
Discrimination at work and in everyday transactions such as shopping, banking transactions, visiting a restaurant or looking for an apartment is prohibited in Germany. This is specified in the General Act on Equal Treatment (German abbreviation: AGG).
In addition to combating discriminating structures and related action, it is also vital to actively promote projects, networks and organisations dedicated to enforcing equal treatment in everyday transactions in order to achieve the objective of a society free from discrimination. To this end, the Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency regularly funds projects aimed at raising awareness of discrimination, for prevention and intervention. The projects focus on both research and counselling work.
